If you’ve ever watched one of my videos and thought, “Her pantry must be so organised…”—well, you’d be half right.
Yes, I love pretty jars, tidy containers, and rows of spices lined up like little soldiers. But the truth? Behind the neat labels and coordinated baskets, there’s a bit of beautiful chaos. Because like life (and especially Greek kitchens), a pantry isn’t meant to be perfect—it’s meant to be full of flavour, feeling, and soul.
Here’s a look inside my pantry—what I reach for daily, what I keep for special moments, and the ingredients that tell the story of my heritage and curiosity.
🫒 The Greek Essentials
These are the heart of my kitchen—the building blocks of my favourite dishes, the flavours that instantly bring me home.
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil: The lifeblood of Greek cooking. I use it generously, from dressings to frying to finishing soups.
- Greek Dried Oregano: Sharp, fragrant, and irreplaceable. Nothing smells more like home.
- Sea Salt: Always flaky and mineral-rich, used to season everything from tomatoes to grilled fish.
- Bay Leaves: Essential in slow-cooked lentils, stews, and tomato sauces.
- Vinegars: I always keep red wine vinegar and white wine vinegar on hand—they’re the quiet heroes in Greek salads and marinades.
- Petimesi (Grape Molasses) and Honey: My favourite sweeteners. I love a splash of Petimezi in my tomato sauces and as a salad dressing.
- Pomegranate Molasses: Not strictly Greek, but a beautiful Mediterranean addition I love in dressings and slow-cooked meats.
- Tomato Passata or crushed tomatoes - we need them for our kokkinisto dishes!
- Kritharaki: Perfect for manestra, yiouvetsi, and my favourite in Psarosoupa.
- Mastiha: It's always on hand! I may spontaneously want to make a batch of koulourakia.
Legumes, Grains & Staples
I could happily live off legumes and grains. They’re humble, nourishing, and endlessly versatile.
- Dried Lentils, Chickpeas, Lima Beans: For soups, stews, and salads.
- Rice: A couple of varieties always on hand—short grain for stuffed vegetables and long grain for pilafs.
- Breadcrumbs: Homemade, toasted, or store-bought—handy for everything from keftedes to baked vegetables.
- Quinoa & Healthy Grains: While not traditionally Greek, I love using quinoa or freekeh as modern, healthy bases for fresh dishes.
- Walnuts & ALL NUTS: Especially for topping Greek yogurt with a drizzle of honey, or adding crunch to salads.
🌿 Spices & Herbs
My spice drawer is full—and not just with Greek flavours. I love to cook widely and with curiosity.
- Cinnamon (sticks & ground): A staple in both sweet and savoury Greek dishes, especially stews and koulourakia.
- Allspice (berries & ground): Deep, warming, and essential in dishes like soutzoukakia.
- Cumin & Paprika: Rich and earthy, adding depth to lentil soups, meats, and even roasted vegetables.
- Mixed Spice Blends: I lean on these often for convenience—especially when I want bold flavour without the fuss.
- Mexican, Asian & Middle Eastern flavours: Think chipotle, turmeric, Aleppo pepper, lebanese 7 spice, and soy sauces. My pantry reflects the flavours I love—Greek at the core, but definitely globally inspired.
🍰 Baking Basics
Even though I don’t bake every day, I always like to be prepared for when the mood (or a craving) strikes.
- Flour, Baking Powder, Bicarb, Cocoa, Vanilla
- Sugar, Brown Sugar, and Always, Always Honey
- A stash of chocolate chips, nuts, and dried fruit for good measure - think figs and currants.
🍫 But don't forget the chocolates and snacks! Most hidden in the D&G box
- Ion chocolate: my fav! That container is almost empty 😂
- Tony's Chocalonley's - wow! The milk chocolate and caramel sea salt is brilliant.
- Kettle Chips: The Avocado oil ones
- All my kids favourite lunch box snacks (blog post for that coming soon).
✨ The Real Pantry Truth
From the outside, my pantry looks like a dream. Labeled jars, cute baskets, maybe even a sprig of bay leaves tucked somewhere for show.
But open a drawer too quickly and you might opened bag of chips, some lids left open thanks to Mr.3 and his pantry adventures. Or a bag of rice sealed with an elastic band around the bag. Because real life, just like real food, isn’t polished—it’s messy, soulful, and alive.
And honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
What’s in Your Pantry?
Whether you have five ingredients or fifty, whether your pantry’s from the supermarket or your yiayia’s garden—what matters is that it tells your story. I’d love to know what staples you can’t live without.
If you loved the look or sound of any of the Greek made products in my pantry, they're from my go-to greek online store, The Greek Providore.
Until next time,
With love and a pinch of oregano,
Meraki
Beautiful.
Mine a little more disorganised but love the smell whenever I open the door.
I have to say my pantry has very similar ingredients with a variety of flour, vinegars and oils. I also have a good stash of Indian spices etc.
Thank you for all recipes and stories.
